A man from South Oxfordshire is set to take on two running challenges in support of causes close to his heart.

Ryan Kelsall, from Longcot, is set to run his first Iron Man 70.3 in Weymouth on September 15 before tackling the Oxford Half Marathon on October 13.

The events are fundraisers for a young boy with a rare genetic disorder, and a mental health charity.

Mr Kelsall has more than doubled his initial target of £200 so far, having raised £470 to date through his GoFundMe page.

Jago's Journey is dedicated to a young boy named Jago who was born with CACNA1E, a rare genetic disorder with only a handful of cases in the world.

Jago’s prognosis is uncertain, but "with the right care and treatment we believe Jago can defy the odds he has been given", Mr Kelsall said.

Many children with the condition, for which there is no cure, are told they will never walk or be able to communicate and most sufferers have limited life spans.

As well as supporting Jago's Journey, Mr Kelsall is also working to raise awareness about men’s mental health by running for Mind.

He said: "My friend and work colleague who I shared a passion for running died from suicide five years ago and another man close to my family very recently also took his own life."
