Northamptonshire Police is preparing for a large scale operation this weekend with 100,000 people set to attend Silverstone for the MotoGP British Grand Prix.
Following a successful policing operation for the Formula 1 British Grand Prix earlier in July, the police are now gearing up for the two-wheel equivalent which will also take place near the Oxfordshire border.
The three-day event running from August 2-4 will see the police force, alongside other emergency services and agencies, working to ensure safety for everyone.
Uniformed and plain-clothed officers, armed officers, and automatic number plate recognition units will be stationed around the circuit, campsites and surrounding road network.
The event's commander, superintendent Pete Basham, said: "Just as much time and effort goes into policing the MotoGP as with the Formula 1 British Grand Prix, with the same meticulous planning and ‘no stone unturned’ approach adopted."
Thousands of personnel including police dogs, special constables, specialist vehicles and volunteers will be present at the event.
Mr Basham added: "With more than 100,000 extra pairs of eyes at the venue over the three days, we would like help from the public to ensure that everyone attending the race event leaves the county having had a crime-free, safe, and enjoyable experience.
"We’d like everyone to be extra vigilant and to contact us if they see anyone or anything which looks out of place or suspicious."
