A three-vehicle crash on the A34 in Oxford caused long rush hour delays this morning (Monday, July 29).

Police were called to the multi-vehicle crash on the northbound carriageway at around 9am between the Botley Interchange and Peartree Interchange.

There were delays of up to 20 minutes, according to AA, with traffic moving at around 10mph.

Drivers were told to “seek an alternative route where possible by” as the incident was dealt with by police and National Highways.

One lane had to be closed following the collision but it was reopened by 11.30am.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “We were called to this collision involving three vehicles at just after 9am today (July 29) but have since left as it has been transferred to National Highways."

The force confirmed that no one required medical treatment following the crash.

It comes after the RAC warned drivers of a "weekend of woe" with millions expected to hit the roads at the start of the summer holidays.

The RAC predicted that 13.8 million motorists in the UK would embark on leisure trips between Friday (July 26) and Sunday (July 28).

Under this estimation, this weekend would be the second busiest summer getaway weekend since 2015.

Behind only 2022 when 18.8 million hit the road amid a heatwave and after two years of Covid lockdowns.
