Cars have been spotted driving on the wrong side of the road after a serious crash closed the A34.

The incident occurred at around noon on Saturday afternoon on the A34 by Newbury near the Oxfordshire border.

Emergency services including an air ambulance attended the scene and police closed the road in both directions.

According to eyewitnesses, military vehicles flipped over in the incident.

“We were one car behind the crash on the A34,” said one driver.

“Military Vehicles involved and flipped over, one went into the other side of the road.

“Absolutely terrified, we were so close to being involved.

“Wishing everyone involved a safe trip home.”

The incident caused chaos on the road with some drivers spotted driving on the wrong side of the road.

A spokesperson from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service said: "Firefighters were alerted to a two vehicle RTC on the A34 shortly after 11am.

"Ambulance and police teams are also on the scene, with the road closed in both directions."

Thames Valley Police added: “We are currently dealing with a serious accident on the A34 at Wash Water.

“The North and South bound carriageways are both currently closed. 

“Please find alternative routes.”

The road is yet to reopen at the time of writing and motorists have been held in standstill queues for two hours.
