Staff at a Kidlington-based company cycled more than 900 miles in four days earlier this month to raise money for a homelessness charity.

Adhesives supplier Intertronics began the challenge in support of Emmaus Oxford on July 15.

The team eased past their initial target of 500 miles by the second day, before competing more than 900 miles by the end of the challenge on July 18.

Following 33 hours of cycling on two stationary bikes, the event has raised more than £5,000 for Emmaus Oxford, which will help the charity build a new facility.

Joined by suppliers, former colleagues, and friends, the Intertronics team pedalled away to cover the distance from Kidlington to Erding, in Germany.

The route passed milestones and the offices of suppliers Relyon Plasma, ViscoTec, and Dymax.

Teresa Arnaud, Adrian Riley, James Heydon, and Ben Swanson, together with Leila White and Kezia Batten, all received awards for various milestones and efforts.

These included Mr Riley being celebrated for raising the most money and Mr Heydon being awarded for cycling the furthest.

Eddie Blaze, CEO at Emmaus Oxford, said: "We are extremely grateful for Intertronics’ support.

"The money raised will contribute to the building of our ‘move-on’ houses which will become a vital step for companions as they move towards mainstream living, as well as enabling us to increase the number of formerly homeless people we are able to support.”

Emmaus Oxford supports 28 formerly homeless people. The charity provides these individuals with a home for as long as they need it.

It offers meaningful work opportunities in social enterprises to help formerly homeless people gain experience, new skills, and a route into independence.

Joint managing director at Intertronics, Mr Swanson, added: "This event aligns closely with our company values.

"We are proud to support our local community, especially in collaboration with customers, friends, and suppliers.

He added: "Amazingly, we reached our initial end-goal of Wiesbaden, the HQ of supplier Dymax, in just two days.

"We’re very grateful to Dymax for their generosity and support, which helped to get this event off the ground.

"We extended our target not once, but twice. First, with our team cycling onward from Wiesbaden to Bayern, and then plucky cyclists from Emmaus Oxford added an extra 40 miles to our total to take us on a victory lap.

"It was a brilliant event that saw the team pull together, get competitive, and have fun all in aid of a good cause, and made a significant dent in our £5,000 aspiration.”
