A main city centre street has been tarmacked as part of the council's efforts to repair its "dreadful" surface.

Works in Queen Street in Oxford began at the start of July under instruction of Oxfordshire County Council.

This comes as approximately £600,000 was allocated by the county council for both Queen Street and Cornmarket Street which Labour city councillor Susanna Pressel described at the time as being in a "dreadful" condition.

It appears works have now paused on one side of Queen Street which now has a new coating.

Queen Street in Oxford is being closed overnight from Monday to Saturday this week between 8pm and 6am to allow for further works on the road, which stretches 1.32 kilometres.

A diversion route will be in place for public transport that normally uses the route.

Works are yet to begin in Cornmarket Street.
