Two new leisure trails have been launched to promote sustainable exploration and support the economy.
Oxfordshire Community Rail Partnership (OxCRP), with backing from Chiltern Railways’ Community Investment Fund, has introduced the trails, which begin from Banbury and Bicester North train stations.
They are aimed at encouraging residents and tourists to appreciate the charm of Oxfordshire, while using rail as part of the adventure.
The Banbury Canal Trail, which is filled with natural beauty, stretches from Banbury train station to Kings Sutton Station along the scenic Oxford Canal.
The design of this trail is aimed at making nature more accessible, hence boosting the health and wellbeing outcomes of outdoor activities and active travel.
Meanwhile, the Bicester North Independent Business Trail features a route which celebrates the community of independent businesses, shops, and restaurants in the town.
By encouraging exploration and patronage, this trail not only uncovers the hidden treasures of Bicester, but also aims to fuel the continued success of these enterprises.
The route casts a light on the unique offerings and serves to promote economic growth, creating a "vibrant and sustainable destination for all".
Both trails are available in physical form from the train stations or to download from the OxCRP website.
Chiltern Railways is lending its support by featuring these trails prominently on station boards across their network.
The primary goal of these leisure trails is to offer attractive options for days out, while simultaneously shrinking carbon footprints and supporting community wellbeing.
Regional growth manager at Chiltern Railways, Zach Bailey, said: "We are delighted to see the launch of these new leisure trails from our stations in Bicester and Banbury."
He added: "This builds on our successful work with local organisations including Banbury Business Improvement District and Bicester Vision to better connect our stations with local businesses.
"Chiltern is looking forward to building on our strong track record of carrying domestic and international tourists, to encourage more visitors to Oxfordshire."
Founded in 2023, OxCRP works to promote active travel, sustainability, and the inclusion of underrepresented groups.
Their leisure trails are one way OxCRP connects people to stations, supports active lifestyles and promotes community wellbeing.
Being a part of the national membership body for community rail partnerships, the Community Rail Network, OxCRP collaborates with community groups, local government, and rail industry partners to deliver projects that enhance rail access for the community.
Their initiatives enable both residents and visitors to enjoy the benefits of sustainable transport, aiming to foster long-term positive change.
