A PENSIONER on trial charged with indecently assaulting young girls in the 1980s said the charges are ‘a load of rubbish’.

David Tilley, 77, is on trial charged with 11 counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14 and two counts of gross indecency.

He allegedly assaulted four young girls, who are now adults, all of whom cannot be named for legal reasons.

Tilley, of Faringdon, has denied the offences and is now on trial at Oxford Crown Court.

Previously in the trial, it was heard that Tilley had allegedly inappropriately touched the girls on several occasions.

One girl said: “He was very nice when he wasn’t abusing us…He’d say, ‘Come and sit with me’…he would put his hand in my pants…he didn’t actually penetrate me.

His defence case started on Monday (July 22), where he told the jury that when he was confronted with the allegations, he thought they were ‘a load of rubbish’.

He said that his former partner had accused of him of touching a young girl years prior to him being charged.

When asked how he reacted, he said: “It was a load of rubbish, nothing happened. I had no idea what she was talking about.

“We never had a conversation about it at all. I just said it was untrue.

"It’s a load of rubbish and it’s untrue what she just said – the accusations that I had abused [a girl].

“I didn’t understand as there was no physical abuse or sexual abuse. I don’t know why she came out with it.

“I had no idea [what she meant].”

Tilley was asked about an incident where it was alleged that he had sexually touched a girl and ejaculated in her bed.

He denied this, stating that she had ‘pulled him in’ and ‘tried to kiss’ him.

“I bent over to kiss her on the forehead,” he said.

“The next thing I knew, she through the bedding away and she was not wearing any clothes and she pulled me closer and kissed me on the lips.

“I pushed away and she started mumbling. I said to her, ‘What do you think you’re doing?’ I was shocked and numb, I just couldn’t believe what she had just done.

“I was uncomfortable…I was worried she would do it again.”

When asked by his barrister if had ever sexually touched the girl, Tilley said ‘no’. When asked if he had ever ejaculated in her bed, Tilley also said ‘no’.

The trial continues.
