Samsung has taken over an Oxford University Spinout company.
The electronics giant recently signed an agreement to acquire Oxford Semantic Technologies, a part of Oxford Science Enterprises' (OSE) Deep Tech portfolio.
Known for developing RDFox®, a cutting-edge knowledge graph software, the firm's technology supports AI applications focusing heavily on accuracy.
Samsung intends to implement this technology across a vast selection of its roster, spanning mobile devices, televisions, and home appliances.
This integration will enhance Samsung's existing on-device AI capabilities, promoting hyper-personalised user experiences and ensuring robust privacy protection.
OSE has been at the core of Oxford Semantic Technologies, being one of the initial investors back in March 2017.
Founded by Oxford professors Ian Horrocks, Boris Motik, and Bernardo Cuenca Grau, the company specialises in knowledge graph and reasoning technology, focusing on transforming complex, multi-source data into a unified database facilitating high-performance queries.
Since 2018, Oxford Semantic Technologies has been cooperating with Samsung Research on multiple initiatives.
Sam Harman, principal and acting head of Deep Tech at OSE, said: "This is great news for Oxford Semantic Technologies and Samsung.
"The company’s groundbreaking technology can play a big role in the advancement of AI across the suite of Samsung’s products."
Peter Crocker, CEO of Oxford Semantic Technologies, stated: "We are delighted to be working with Samsung.
"We will provide Samsung’s customers with even more sophisticated personalisation."
