A PAEDOPHILE has avoided a second prison sentence after child sex images found on his phone were revealed to have been there before his previous offending.

Shawn Rostron, of East End Lane, Adderbury, was first sentenced at Oxford Crown Court in March 2023 after being caught downloading indecent images of children.

He was handed an eight-month prison, suspended for two years.

The 28-year-old was back in court on Friday (July 19) charged with making indecent images of children – namely one Category A, two Category B and 184 Category C images.

However, it was discovered these images had been downloaded before or during his first set of offending.

Sentencing, Judge Ian Pringle said: “I’m going to take a highly unusual course in a case like this and give a conditional discharge.

“It’s serious having any indecent images of children on any device in your possession but further research led this to being discovered on devices before you were dealt with on the last occasion on January 23, 2023.

“You were when dealt with in this court on March 2, 2023. If this had been taken into account on the previous occasion, it’s unlikely it would have made any difference to the sentence that was passed.”

He was given a conditional discharge for two years and £150 in court costs.
