South Oxfordshire District Council recycles the most waste in England, a new study shows.
The findings shows the council's recycling percentage is 61.6 per cent.
Conducted by Enviro Homes Renewables using the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs data, it shows that the council sent the most waste for reuse, recycling, or composting in 2022-23.
In the same period, this council collected about 340.1 kg of household waste per person.
Three Rivers District Council ranked second with 61.5 per cent of the household waste sent for recycling, with each person contributing about 339.4 kg of waste.
The Vale of White Horse District Council, another South East council, is third with 60.9 per cent of all household waste recycled and approximately 328.7 kg collected per person.
St Albans City and District Council takes fourth place, with 60.1 per cent of the area’s household waste going into recycling and 335.3 kg of household waste collected per person.
Ross Jones, director of Enviro Homes Renewables, said: "While many councils are doing their bit to ensure waste is kept to a minimum, it’s clear from this data that some councils do more than others, especially with the variety of areas that appear on this list as well.
"There are ways individuals can minimise their household waste by a lot, but it's a group effort at the end of the day to ensure that this makes a difference."
