A longstanding pizza takeaway in Bicester has been told it needs 'major improvement' by hygiene inspectors.
Pizza House Bicester in Deans Court in the town has been operating since 1989 and serves a variety of pizzas, burgers, chicken and sides.
Despite its longevity in the town, Cherwell District Council’s Environmental Health team were not impressed with what they discovered during the inspection.
Inspectors arrived at the eatery on Thursday, June 13, but deemed that it required ‘major improvement’ and handed the business a shocking one-out-of-five rating.

One major issue at the site was the pizza spot’s management of food safety which was rated as also requiring ‘major improvement’.
This refers to whether there is a system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served at the venue is safe to eat.
It also concerns whether there is evidence that staff know about food safety and if the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
Similarly, Pizza House Bicester’s cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building were described as needing ‘major improvement’.

This includes having an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.
Despite facing problems in that regard, the restaurant’s hygienic food handling was rated as ‘generally satisfactory’.
This refers to the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage of food.
