A SENTENCING hearing has been scheduled for a man who admitted to sexually assaulting a woman in Wantage.

Richard Illingworth, of Church Street, East Hendred, appeared at Oxford Crown Court on Friday (July 19) charged with one count of assault by penetration.

It was heard that the offence took place on October 22, 2022 in Wantage and that the complainant cannot be named for legal reasons.

The 42-year-old, of previous good character, pleaded guilty to the offence.

His sentencing date has now been set for Friday, September 6 and was adjourned in order for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

Illingworth has been granted conditional bail until this date with the provision not to contact the complainant in the case.
