Foodies can enjoy the taste of the sun-kissed shores of the Amalfi Coast at the top of the Westgate Centre in Oxford.

Despite a hot weather purple patch, my walk through Oxford ahead of the meal at Six by Nico was in the pouring rain but that did not take away from what was to be a culinary journey that encapsulated the Mediterranean destination perfectly.

The restaurant changes its six-course tasting menu every six weeks meaning the Southern Italian coastline is halfway through its life with just three weeks left to able to try out this amazingly put-together menu.

As we sat down we were handed a menu that listed the six courses as parmesan polenta, heirloom tomato, spaghetti Nero, black pollock, a trio of pork and delizia al limone alongside five throughout and paired glasses of wine.

The parmesan polenta is a luxurious start to the tasting menu with earthy truffle and savoury mushroom ragout sitting underneath a creamy sauce.

Next up was the heirloom tomato dish which was a refreshing contrast, showcasing the natural sweetness and acidity of the tomatoes.

Along with green olive tapenade and whipped ricotta, this was a delight bursting with freshness and flavour.

Third on the menu is the spaghetti nero which is a striking-looking and bold course.

The squid ink pasta was a perfect al dente with heat from the chilli and roasted garlic throughout.

Toasted sourdough added a delightful crunch, while the foam made from Provolone cheese from Monaco made for its sauce.

The black pollock dish was impeccably cooked, tender and flaky while the trio of pork was a hearty and indulgent course.

The belly of pork was flavourful, while the pancetta ham jam added a sweet and savoury element as the nduja cannelloni brought a spicy kick.

An extra side of prawns can be added to this course, this is easily shareable as after five courses you are starting to run out of room.

But as everyone says there is always room for dessert.

The final course is the delizia al imone, which is a delightful end to the meal.

The lemon mousse brings a wave of bright citrus flavour on top of a sweet polenta cake alongside a yoghurt sorbet with a slight tang.

There is also an entirely vegetarian alternative accompanied by dishes including a gnocchi dish as a substitute for the black pollock.

Instead of the Trio of Pork, vegetarians can expect a smoked baby onion which mixes pumpkin and truffle risotto with pickled summer squash.

The full six-course tasting menu costs £50, with matching wine pairings at £38.

There are also matching aperitifs including Amalfi Breeze, Campari Spritz and Aperol Spritz on sale between £9 and £10 each.

Snacks also inspired by the theme can be ordered too, such as plates like arancini and fried artichokes (£9 each).

The Amalfi Coast six-course menu and four-course lunch menu will be available at Six by Nico Oxford until Sunday, August 11.
