A motorway crash followed by a broken-down lorry caused queuing traffic in Oxford on Thursday evening.

The A34 northbound was partially blocked by the stalled lorry near the Peartree interchange which caused delays of up to 40 minutes in the area.

There had already been delays remaining from an earlier crash nearby on the M40.

Emergency services were called to the M40 southbound between Brackley and Bicester following a collision first reported by National Highways just before 6pm.

There was four miles of congestion on approach at the height of the delays causing 50 minute delays above normal travel time.

All vehicles had been moved out of the closed lane and the motorway fully reopened at around 6.20pm.

At that time there were two-mile congestion and 30-minute delays.
