A suspected boat oil spillage on the River Thames has sparked an investigation to be launched by specialist officers.

The Environment Agency has launched the probe after the incident near the riverside cafe the Boat House in Wallingford.

The public body has urged anyone with information about the oil spillage to come forward.

A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: “Specialist officers are investigating an oil pollution on the River Thames at Wallingford.

“We believe the oil may have come from a boat and the investigation is continuing into what caused the spill.

“Anyone with information about this incident or concerns about pollution in any waterway can call our 24-hour incident hotline: 0800 807060.

“Our Swimfo website has the latest conditions at more than 450 designated bathing waters.”
