Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz has responded to Emma Raducanu being spotted at Sunday's final.

The Spanish prodigy retained his crown at SW19, winning his fourth Grand Slam in the process after seeing off GOAT contender Novak Djokovic.

A host of recognisable faces were in Centre Court, with Raducanu among them - which only served to fuel the rumour mill. Alcaraz, however, refused to be drawn on dating rumours.

Both she and Alcaraz are 21, which fuelled speculation, but the Spaniard simply insisted if there was a tournament played in his homeland he would also attend.

Raducanu is a US Open champion from 2021, who enjoyed her best Grand Slam run since that victory in New York nearly three years ago.

“I don’t know. I guess a lot of people came to see the final,” he said, when asked why Raducanu would have wanted to watch the final.

“Novak and I we always play a spectacular match, it’s a beautiful match to see.

“And she is from here, so I imagine that she wanted to come and see it. If there was a Grand Slam in Murcia I would watch the finals 100 per cent. I don’t know if she came to the finals or if she came to see me. Who knows? You have to question her, but I hope she enjoyed the final.”

Raducanu reached the fourth round at Wimbledon before she was beaten by qualifier Lulu Sun.

In her two wins leading into the clash with the New Zealander, Alcaraz had played beforehand on the same court.

The Brit has claimed that, after watching the Spaniard, she drew inspiration from his style of play and attempted to mimic some of his shots.

She said: “The last couple matches I’ve been following Carlos and it’s just good to watch before my own match. And sometimes in certain moments you in a way try to emulate certain shots or whatever.”

Raducanu makes Oxford University decision

Ahead of the Championships, Ms Raducanu was pictured in the main quad of Corpus Christi College during a visit to Oxford University.

When asked if her run at Wimbledon had delayed her decision to study at Oxford University, the 21-year-old responded that the question had taken her by "surprise".

“I’m very much focused on my professional tennis career,” she said in the post-match press conference.

“Once that’s over maybe or once I have more disposition or more time, that’s for sure something I would love to explore.

“For now I’m very much focused on the tennis.”
