Up to 5,000 people attended Witney Carnival on 'a perfect day for it', said organisers.

Thirty entrants dressed on the theme “Children’s TV Throughout The Ages” filed past the judges – Sophie Law (Radio Oxford), Pamela Reid (director of clinical affairs for Abbott Diabetes Care) and Councillor Owen Collins (Witney town mayor) – for a circuit of Winey, accompanied by three traction engines before returning to the Leys about an hour later.

The procession winners were West Witney Primary School as the Best Walking Group and Witney Day Centre.

The prizes were presented by Sophie Law.

During the afternoon there was free entertainment in the arena, live music and a selection of food, drink and a host of stalls of different types including charities, local groups and food vendors.

Simon Hamilton, president rotary club of Witney, said: "Thanks should go to the groups who planned, arranged and marshalled this event – the Witney Rotary Club, the Witney Lions Club and 2120 (Witney) Squadron Air Training Corps staff and cadets plus our sponsors Witney Town Council and Abbott Diabetes Care."
