On March 14, he was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital where a scan revealed a subdural haematoma, a serious condition where blood collects between the skull and the surface of the brain.
Three days later he underwent surgery to evacuate the haematoma, during which a subdural drain was inserted.
Following the removal of the drain on March 20, he was shortly found unresponsive on the floor.
A subsequent scan detected a new acute haemorrhage which led to further neurosurgical intervention.
Despite further treatment, his condition worsened, and he died on March 23.
