Oxford-born Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood is currently in intensive care.

The 52-year-old has been in hospital for the past few days but is now "out of danger" according to a statement released from his side project, The Smile.

"A few days ago, Jonny became seriously ill from an infection that needed emergency hospital treatment, some of it in intensive care,” read the statement.

"Mercifully he is now out of danger and will soon return home."

The musician has been on tour with Radiohead bandmate Thom Yorke in The Smile in recent months but they have now cancelled future concerts.

"We have been instructed by the medical team in charge of Jonny's care to cancel all engagements until he has had time to make a full recovery,” added the statement.

"To that end, The Smile tour of Europe in August is cancelled." It added: "We all wish Jonny a speedy recovery."

No other details were given on the infection which has hospitalised Mr Greenwood this week.

The guitarist is also an Oscar-nominated film composer, scoring movies such as Phantom Thread, Inherent Vice and There Will Be Blood.

Radiohead is an English rock band formed in Abingdon in 1985 and comprises Mr Greenwood, Mr Yorke, Ed O'Brien, Philip Selway and Jonny’s brother Colin.
