It has today been confirmed that armed police officers were called out to a reports of a firearm in an Oxford neighbourhood.

Thames Valley Police has confirmed this two days after armed police officers were spotted in Morris Crescent late Tuesday (June 9) afternoon. 

Upon arrival no firearms were found, police said. 

A picture sent by a resident to the Oxford Mail showed multiple armed officers and a person lying on the floor next to a vehicle.

An eyewitness said: "They blocked off the road and told people to get back in their houses.

"There were around six police cars."

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police today said: "At around 4pm on Tuesday we received reports of a firearm on Morris Crescent.

"Armed officers attended and no firearms were found."
