Oxford railway will be closed the last weekend of July which coincides with the popular Truck festival in south Oxfordshire.

Those hoping to attend the festival that weekend may have to find other travel arrangements.

The railway was originally planned to close for five days, but Network Rail has confirmed today (Thursday, July 11) that it will only be closed for two days on Saturday, July 27 and Sunday 28.

Over the weekend there will be no train services between Didcot and Oxford, with a rail replacement service operating from Becket Street car park.

However, train services between Oxford and Banbury will still be affected for five days between Saturday 27 and Wednesday, July 31 due to additional work to the north of Oxford.

This comes as Network Rail today announced that Botley Road will not be reopening this October as planned due to "highly complex" works needing more time to be completed.

The Network Rail website says the closure of Oxford railway at the end of July "is vital to allow for the expansion of the station, the introduction of more train services, the creation of a fifth platform, and to improve the local road layout".

In a statement Network Rail said: "During this time there will be work taking place on the new platform and continuation of the resignalling programme.

"There will also be an upgrade to tracks to the south of Oxford near Culham."

Truck Festival welcomes thousands of festival-goers each year and is expected to be a sell-out event.

It is taking place from Friday, July 26 until Sunday, July 28 at Hill Farm in Steventon, south Oxfordshire.
