An 11-year-old boy has been recognised by police for his bravery after helping officers to locate a person in water.

Police have described Joeby, who attends Witney Community Primary School, as a "young hero" and said he "helped save the day".

In a statement Thames Valley Police said: "Joeby alerted the police after spotting a person entering the water while they were conducting a search in the area of the Old Bathing Place Witney.

"Thanks to Joeby's quick thinking, the officers were able to locate the person and ensure their safety.

"PCSO’s from Witney Police Station presented Joeby with an award and a thank you for his bravery and presence of mind.

"It's amazing to see such courage and kindness in someone so young."
