A road in Wallingford is anticipated to be closed until mid-November from next month.

The road closure will ensure building operations involving scaffolding and drainage connection works can be carried out.

Thames Street will be closed from August 15, causing traffic diversions.

Oxfordshire County Council issued a notice of Temporary Traffic Order which temporarily prohibits vehicles driving in the section of Thames Street between High Street and St Peters Street.

Traffic will be diverted via the High Street, St Martins Street, New Road, Wood Street, St Peters Street to Thames Street and vice versa.

There will be traffic signs put in place to indicate to motorists when the measures are in force.

There will be exemptions for emergency services and for the works, as well as access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of the road. 

Oxfordshire County Council is the authority responsible for temporary road closures in the county which as not trunk roads.

The council deals with applications for road closures and other restrictions which require a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO).

This includes restrictions on county roads, footpaths and bridleways.

National Highways and other maintenance agencies are responsible for major trunk roads.
