Three Barbies in pink cars will join Witney Carnival parade this Saturday to highlight an annual breast cancer fundraiser.

The real-life Barbies will highlight the yearly Witney in Pink Day, this year taking place on September 28.

Carnival attendees are encouraged to contribute to the cause by guessing the number of pink sweets in a jar at a stall organised by Witney Against Breast Cancer.

A total of £300,000 has been raised by Witney in Pink Day over its 24-year history, with funds going towards research by Abingdon-based charity Against Breast Cancer.

The charity focuses on improvements in detection and treatment of the disease in order to increase survival rates.

The September 28 fundraiser will feature a tombola, cake stall, tin collection, choirs, bands and dancers.

The town centre will be decked out in biodegradable pink balloons and businesses will compete in a pink window decorating contest.

Jeanne Chattoe, a Witney resident awarded the British Empire Medal for her fundraising efforts, said: "Witney in Pink Day is a magical event – the support every year is tremendous and unwavering.

"It is such a wonderful, feelgood event and it’s raised awareness too, helping an awful lot of people to talk about breast cancer and reach out for help and support.

"We are appealing to shops, pubs and Witney businesses to ‘pink’ their windows and premises too, or to organise an initiative such as pink drinks, a raffle or quiz.”
