A CORONER has revealed the name of a man who was found dead in the centre of Oxford earlier this year.

Andrew Burton-Page, 51, was found unresponsive in Cornmarket Street in the early hours of June 18.

Police cordoned off the street from about 5.10am and businesses in the area were forced to remain closed for part of the day.

At an inquest opening at Oxford Coroner’s Court on Thursday (July 4), it was heard that Mr Burton-Page, of Thames View Road, was pronounced dead at 6.33am.

He was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington where a post-mortem examination was carried out.

The inquest heard that the cause of his death still remains under investigation.

Speaking at the time, a spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: “The officer on this case has informed that the family don’t wish to share any details or release a tribute at this time.”

Tributes then poured in for Mr Burton-Page in the days following his death in the city centre.

“One of the nicest people I have had the pleasure of meeting,” said friend Russel. “A gentle giant with a lovely smile, polite, caring and very intelligent.

“You are at peace now and reunited with that special person.”

Area coroner Nicholas Graham has set a date for a full inquest into Mr Burton-Page’s death to take place at the same court on October 2 at 11.45am.
