CrossCountry has committed to funding new community initiatives across its network with the launch of a new fund.

The long-distance train operator announced the Customer and Communities Improvement Fund (CCIF) would be making £167,095 available to support sustainable community initiatives across the country.

The first application window for the fund is slated to run until Friday, August 23.

CrossCountry's environment and sustainability manager, Jessica Lockwood, said: "We’re excited to launch the refreshed Customer and Communities Improvement Fund and can’t wait to see what applications come in from communities across the country.

"We’d be delighted to hear from projects and groups looking to improve the communities served by the CrossCountry network, especially with an emphasis on social value and sustainability."

The CCIF was launched two years ago, in which time it has supported 16 initiative to a total value of £400,000, which included a £20,000 donation to the Cornwall Community Foundation.

The foundation's development director, Tamara Sherston-Baker, said: "It’s been fantastic to work with CrossCountry to help even more projects and initiatives with their critical community work across Cornwall.
