A care home in Witney is set to host a sports day as it looks forward to this summer's Olympics in Paris.

Millers Grange will host its own version of the Games on July 24, from 11am to 4pm, and is inviting the public to join them.

The event forms part of The Big Care UK Sports Day, a nationwide initiative seeing more than 130 Care UK homes taking part in sports days.

An opening ceremony including a performance by Witney Karate Club will kick-start the day.

Visitors can try their hand at various events including egg-and-spoon races, basketball, and ball pong, and will have the chance to secure their own gold medals.

They can also enjoy a barbecue prepared by the home’s head chef, and live entertainment from performer, Cody.

Home manager Alison Parry said: "We're delighted to be welcoming the local community to join our own sporting celebrations.

"We are part of a strong community here in Witney, and days like this are a fantastic way of bringing us all together for a little healthy competition and to celebrate this year's summer of sport, all while showcasing exactly what life is like here at Millers Grange.

"The day not only promises a lot of laughter and enjoyment for all involved, but also is an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones – while keeping active."
