Banbury is set to welcome up-and-coming musicians from across the county when it hosts a festival later this month.

After a nine-year hiatus, Strummerfest, organised by Chris Oakes, will bring bands from Oxfordshire to Banbury United on July 13.

Mr Oakes, the owner of Strummer Room Records, regularly hosts live music events at the Apothecary Tap in Banbury.

Each event features three bands or musicians performing their own original material.

Mr Oakes also organises Banbury Record Fair, which takes place quarterly at the Spencer Clubhouse at Banbury United.

He said: "The ethos of Strummerfest is to give a platform to independent bands and musicians that write and perform their own material.

"Many of these bands are well-respected and draw large crowds when performing on the Oxford music scene and surrounding areas, but rarely get a chance to play in Banbury due to the lack of venues that promote original live music."

The Strummerfest line-up includes bands like Spinner Fall, Lake Acacia, The Exact Opposite, and Ghosts in the Photographs, among others.

Each band has contributed a track to a CD that will be available for sale at the festival.

All profits made from CD and download sales will be donated to Banbury Animal Rescue and Kindness Service.

Tickets cost £16.50 online or can be bought for £20 on the door, with those under 14 accompanied by an adult entering for free.
