A STALKING and assault trial is taking place at Oxford Crown Court after a man allegedly abused his former partner in West Oxfordshire.

Damian Corbin, of Finsbury Place, Chipping Norton, is on trial charged with six counts – all of which he has denied.

The 37-year-old is accused of abusing his ex-partner by beating her, pinning her to the bed, and throwing glass at her as well as stalking by waiting outside her home and sending numerous texts and calls.

He has been charged with one count of assault by beating on July 15 last year, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on July 22 last year and January 1 this year and one count of stalking involving fear of violence between August 5 last year and January 2 this year.

Corbin has also been charged with two further counts of assault by beating on August 6 last year and January 1 this year of two different male victims.

The defendant has denied all the offences and is taking part in a trial which is expected to last two to three days.

During the trial on Friday (June 28), the complainant gave evidence against Corbin from the dock.

She alleges that on several occasions, Corbin would be waiting outside her home even if she was not at the property.

On New Years Eve last year, he sent her a text reading: “Why are your lights on, I’m not stupid, You don’t have to lie,” after the complainant said she was not at home.

Speaking to the jury, she said: “I left my bedroom light on after I had left my house so I presume he had seen the light and I thought I was at home.

“I presume he was standing outside mu house, knocking on the door thinking I was there so I said I wasn’t there ‘so you might as well go and enjoy your New Years Eve’.

“I was considering that maybe he would get the message and leave the property and go and do something more interesting.”

She alleges that Corbin then showed up at the pub she was spending the evening at instead.

“We were outside and he came to the seating area and sat in the corner staring at me for a good 45 minutes,” she said. “[My friend] suggested he stays inside of go elsewhere rather than sitting in the corner staring at me alone.”

She alleges that he would also accuse her of ‘cheating’, regardless of whether they were together or not.
