A major road will undergo a series of closures for essential repairs.

National Highways will carry out repair work including replacement of road expansion joints, installation of new kerbs and resurfacing on Oxford Road (A4183) in Abingdon

So work can be carried out safely, there will be two-way traffic lights as well as a closure of the bridge on Oxford Road (A4183), over the A34, for four weekends. 

There will be two-way traffic lights from tonight (Friday June 28) for seven nights 8pm to 6am. 

There will be full weekend closures on July 5 - 8; July 12 - 15 and July 19 -22. The closures will be from 9pm on Friday until 6am on Monday.

There will be a contingency weekend closure, if required on August 2 - August 5, from 9pm on Friday until 6am on Monday.

Oxford Road (A4183) will be closed between Dunmore Road and Sugworth Lane.   

The northbound A34 entry slip at Abingdon will be closed during the weekend closures. 

The southbound A34 exit slip will be open, but traffic will only turn left to Abingdon. 

There will be a shuttle bus service for pedestrians and cyclists during the weekend closures. 

Drivers should allow extra time during their journeys and follow the official diversion route.
 
Traffic heading north on Oxford Road (A4183) will be diverted via Oxford Road, Vineyard, Stratton Way, Ock Street (A415), Marcham Road, to join the A34 northbound to exit at Hinksey Hill Interchange and then on to Hinksey Hill to rejoin the A4183. 

Traffic heading south on Oxford Road (A4183) will be diverted via Hinksey Hill, Hinksey Hill Interchange on to the A34 southbound to exit at the next junction and turn left on to Oxford Road (A4183).
