A TRIAL has started at Oxford Crown Court where a young man is accused of raping a girl in Didcot.

However, Jones, of Furlong Close, Oxford, has denied the offence – stating what had happened between the pair was consensual.

During the trial on Tuesday (June 25), the jury were shown the cross-examination of the girl, who was in her early teens when the alleged offence took place.

The girl said she had been messaging Jones on the social media app for ‘a month, maybe two’ before the met in person.

When asked if the messages were sexual, she said: “Not from me but yeah.”

However, she did say it was ‘correct’ that she had sent Jones a picture of herself naked from the waist up.

When asked again if the messages were sexual due to the photos exchange, the girl said: “I was a child. No, I was not [flirting].”

The jury heard that the girl had initiated meeting up with Jones in person but denied that it was a date and that she wanted something sexual to happen between the pair.

She said: “No, no. I was a child.”

The complainant said she was ‘excited’ to meet Jones and she thought it was ‘quite cool’ that he was a racing driver.

She added she was enjoying spending time with someone before the alleged rape took place.

It was heard that the pair had met outside the Diamond Convenience Store in Didcot before heading together to a field.

The pair sat together on a bench where Jones alleged the pair had become intimate and were ‘cuddling each other’.

When asked if the girl was ‘aware that things might become intimate’ or if she ‘wanted’ things to become intimate, the girl began to cry.

She said: “You can’t say that.”

The complainant then added, when asked if she had touched Jones’s leg:  “He put his hand on my leg. Why would I touch a man’s leg?”

Jones alleged that the pair had then kissed and that she had then touched his genitals.

“Did I f***,” the girl said.

Jones claims that he then asked the girl if she wanted to give him oral sex.

The girl said: “No, he never asked me. He told me to. He never asked me.”

The trial continues.
