“I WAS shocked, I was scared, I was anxious, I didn’t know what to do,” said a woman about an RAF aircraftsman who allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Joseph Tuitoga, of RAF Brize Norton, near Carterton, is on trial at Oxford Crown Court charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of assault by penetration.

The 28-year-old is accused of sexually assaulting a woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, on August 9, 2022 in Witney town centre after meeting her in a snooker bar.

However, the senior aircraftsman has denied the offences and is now standing trial.

During the proceedings on Tuesday (June 25), the complainant gave evidence in court about the incident.

She said that while the pair were in the bar, she found Tuitoga ‘intimidating’ and had ‘demanded’ her to kiss her.

“I was quite intimidated by this man,” she said. “I thought if I didn’t put my arm around him he might try and hurt me.

“In that moment, I felt frightened. He was taller and stronger than me and had already been placing demands on me like, ‘Kiss me, kiss me,’ when I said no.

“Regardless of who was there, I was a young 19-year-old woman, I felt very frightened.”

When asked by Tuitoga’s defence barrister if she thought the RAF employee was ‘being sociable’ that night by buying her a drink and offering her friends a drink, the complainant said: “You could say he was being sociable with other people.

“Regardless or whether he was being social or not, he touched me without consent. You may say it’s sociable but I call it assault.”

The woman was then asked about the alleged assault outside of the snooker bar where Tuitoga is claimed to have ‘swept’ the complainant into a ‘baby carry’ before biting her breasts.

Tuitoga’s barrister asked why she hadn’t ‘smacked’ the defendant.

The complainant said: “I was scared. He was significantly stronger than me. The fact he could pick me up so easily.

“There was just so much going through my mind. I was shocked, I was scared, I was anxious, I didn’t know what to do.

“I had cried out in pain.”

After the alleged incident, the jury heard police were called to the town centre for an unrelated fight that had broken out.

When asked why she didn’t report the defendant at the time, the woman said: “I should have done that.

“Looking back now, I should have done that but I didn’t. I was terrified.”

The trial continues.
