People living in one of Abingdon's main streets have elected their own mayor.

It's one of the town's quirky traditions that every year the residents and workers of Ock Street elect a mayor.

This is an honorary position and not connected to the role of the town council's mayor.

The mayor of Ock Street is also the leader of the Abingdon Traditional Morris Dancers, so there was Morris dancing across the town on Saturday.

(Image: Ed Nix) A polling station at the Brewery Tap opened at 11am and closed at 4pm, and people living or working in Ock Street got a vote.

The previous Mayors of Ock Street, Roger Cox and Harry Knight did not stand this year, and so there were three other candidates, and the winner was Rob Charlton.

A sword and cup of office was presented by the Mayor of Abingdon Gabby Barody.

After sitting in his 'chair of office' Mr Charlton was then paraded up and down Ock Street by his fellow Morris dancers.
