A school cook who bought a ticket for the People's Postcode Lottery after having a dream she had won has scooped £822,000.

Sally Maudlin, 61, of Shiplake, had such a strong premonition two years ago that she bought a second ticket.

Now, she has won the postcode lottery's weekly Millionaire Street prize, netting two cheques of £410,995 each.

Speaking about her dream, she said: "It was a white van with the Postcode Lottery logo on it sitting at the bottom of the drive at the gate.

"I saw £30,000 written on a card. It’s been near enough in the back of my mind every day since.

"I’ve thought about it most weeks. I told Murray [her husband] about it before. Even a week ago today, he asked if I’d won £10 that week. I said ‘no, but it is coming’. Sometimes I just get these feelings."

She continued: "I kept saying to everyone ‘my win is coming’. Now here you are, but I never dreamed of anything like this."

She was the only winner of the Millionaire Street prize, with the remainder of the jackpot distributed among other participants in the wider RG9 4 postcode area.

Following her victory, she now has new aspirations, including buying a house and going on a world cruise.

She currently lives in a cottage on the farm where Murray, also 61, is head tractor driver.

But the couple, who celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary in September, have been thinking of buying a house when he retires from the job he loves.

She said: “My husband has worked so hard for us and never asked for anything back. He’s my rock. Now I can give him something back.

“The main priority is using this money wisely and sensibly and securing our future and helping the family, no doubt. We’ll look seriously at what we can do to help us for the rest of our lives."

The couple said they will help boat skipper son James, 34, fabric shop sales assistant daughter Laura Bennett and grandson Joe, 13.

Ms Maudlin has been battling ill health with spinal and shoulder conditions and said that because of this "being able to retire would be everything to me".

Her win means charities have also benefitted, with Headway Thames Valley being been awarded £60,000 by Postcode Community Trust.
