A party shop in Banbury town centre will be closing next month after 28 years of trading.

The family-run business, ran by Jane Gillett and her husband Kenny, sells party accessories, fancy dress clothing and provides a balloon decorating service.

On July 20 the shop in Church Lane will close - but it's not vanishing completely - the balloon decorating side of the business will continue, running from the pair's home in Middleton Cheney.

The shop are currently offering 50 per cent off everything, giving customers one last chance to pick up their favourite items.

Ms Gillett said there are a few reasons for the change: "People's shopping habits have changed so people don’t come into town as often.

"Our town has lost a lot of big shops, like many towns have.

"The footfall is a lot lower and there is less coming through the door.

"But also, I've been doing it for 28 years and I'm ready to have a little change."

Ms Gillett added that she feels positive for the future of her business: "I’m really positive, I still love Banbury, I still love retail – it's just the right time for us to try and promote our balloons a bit more for the corporate events.

"I'll miss seeing the customers coming through the door, but it's just our time really."

There is also a leaving party in the works for July 6 at the Ugly Mug, which is located opposite.
