A voluntary organisation which supports families across the county is celebrating Small Charity Week by asking the public to pledge their ‘LOVE’ for small charities.

Home-Start Oxford is marking the national week, which runs from June 24-28, by calling on people to listen and learn, organise, volunteer and engage.

The public is encouraged to listen and learn about the work small charities are doing, organise by getting their community involved, volunteer their time or donate, and engage with small charities to strengthen their community.

Small Charity Week highlights the work of the UK's small charity sector, which makes up 96 per cent of the 163,959 voluntary organisations.

Home-Start Oxford's free and confidential service aids parents and carers through a range of issues such as postnatal depression, loneliness, bereavement, health struggles, and isolation.

Katharine Barber, CEO of Home-Start Oxford, said: "We might be recognised as a small charity, but we are definitely mighty in the work that we do.

"Charities like ours are embedded in the local community and are a trusted source of support.

"At Home-Start our incredible volunteers and staff work tirelessly to support families.

"Last year we were able to help over 400 families but demand for our services continues to increase.

"That’s why we are proud to be part of this collective effort to recognise the power of small charities in our local communities."
