Oxfordshire residents are being asked to sign up to a step challenge for the charity Diabetes UK.

The One Million Step Challenge, running between July 1 and September 30, hopes to encourage participants to walk 10,000 steps per day.

This challenge is free to join, and participants can take part on their own doorstep, and go at their own pace.

The event serves as both a fitness boost and fundraising opportunity, to help raise funds for crucial research and provision of support and care for those suffering from diabetes.

Head of Diabetes UK – south west and south central, Phaedra Perry, said: "Walking is a fantastic way to help you get fit and by taking on the One Million Step Challenge, you’ll not only be stepping towards a healthier version of yourself, but every step you take and every pound you raise will help us fund research for new treatments, campaign for better care, and provide vital support through our helpline."

In addition to the primary challenge, there are options for half a million steps and a more ambitious 1.7 million steps, equating to 18,400 steps per day.

Multiple rewards are given out, including an eco-friendly wooden medal, a t-shirt and a Diabetes UK hoodie.

Entries can be made for the One Million Step Challenge on https://step.diabetes.org.uk.

There is no registration fee and no minimum sponsorship is required.
