A train hit a tree in Oxford blocking railway lines in the city.

The incident happened on Wednesday morning (June 19) as a Chiltern Railways train collided with a tree between Oxford and Oxford Parkway rail stations.

A spokesperson for Chiltern Railways told the Oxford Mail: “A train hit the tree.

“The line reopened at 9.30am and there were residual delays until a normal service resumed just before 11am.

“There were no injuries.”

Although there were no reported injuries in the crash, train services in and out of Oxford were severely affected throughout the morning.

The rail company alerted customers that all lines between the two Oxford stations were blocked and these stayed this way for hours.

"Due to an obstruction on the track between Oxford Parkway and Oxford all lines are blocked,” said a Chiltern Railways spokesperson at the time.

"We have ticket acceptance in place for Great Western Railway between Oxford and London Paddington and Cross Country Trains between Oxford and Banbury."
