Great Western Railway (GWR) has urged people going to this year's Glastonbury Festival to book their train tickets soon to avoid missing out.

The Glastonbury Festival site opens to the public from June 26, with thousands expected to make the journey before travelling home on the July 1.

GWR's early and mid-morning services on June 26 and 27 are almost at capacity and, due to demand, the train operator, which runs services across stations in Oxfordshire, requires all customers travelling to the festival to reserve a seat.

However, there are still plenty of seats available on trains running after midday, with the company encouraging travellers to book soon.

To accommodate the crowds, GWR will run more than 40 trains from London Paddington to Castle Cary, as well as many other trains from other parts of the network.

Travellers are being warned that they may have to queue at London Paddington to board trains safely, and at Castle Cary to exit the station for the connecting bus service.

Festival attendees are reminded to only bring what they can carry and that luggage space is limited on the shuttle bus.

GWR also said not to bring trolleys or sack barrows as these will not be allowed on trains or buses.

The journey from London to Castle Cary takes one hour 40 minutes, where a free bus service transports visitors to Worthy Farm, the home of Glastonbury.
