Here are some nostalgic photos of 1979 taken from the Oxford Mail archive - including one showing the New Theatre under threat.

Our black and white photo shows members of the actors' union Equity holding up placards outside the George Street venue, insisting it should not close.

Their campaign was successful and the theatre has continued to stage musicals, shows and concerts over the years.
