A five hour dance 'extravaganza' is one of the events set to take place at a summer dance festival in Oxford.

Dancin’ Oxford's festival will take place on several days in July, with free events taking place across various dates in Leiden Square, Westgate Oxford.

They include the extravaganza on July 6 and a Global Dance Stage on July 7, both running for five hours from midday until 5pm.

The extravaganza will feature 10 different dance artists or companies, including some of the UK’s premiere dance artists.

Meanwhile, the global dance stage will offer a celebration of Oxford's community and youth dancers.

Centre director at Westgate Oxford, Brendan Hattam, said: "We are thrilled to be hosting Dancin’ Oxford at Westgate once again after previous successes.

"The dance festival is a great way to showcase both local and international talent who will be performing a range of dance genres.

"We are excited to see Leiden Square filled with fantastic dance performances this summer."

The festival will also host the Capability Circus on July 19, July 20, and July 21.

Claire Thompson, the director of Dancin' Oxford, said: "This summer, we’re thrilled to have curated an electrifying showcase of dance excellence, combining wonderful community and youth dance groups with some of the UK’s premier dance companies.

"There really is something for everyone – so join us this summer to celebrate our incredibly community."
