It comes after figures from the Home Office which were released last summer revealed just one in 48 reported bike thefts in Thames Valley resulted in a charge.

The data showed 4,502 bike thefts were reported to Thames Valley Police in the year to March 2023, with just 93 (2.1 per cent) resulting in a charge or summons to court.

In addition, no suspect was identified in 88 per cent of cases, and seven per cent were dropped because of evidential difficulties, according to the data.
