Boney M lead singer Liz Mitchell has been awarded an MBE from King Charles in his new honours list.

The 71-year-old from Jamaica found fame with the band after working in Germany and now lives in Henley.

Boney M assembled in 1975 and consisted of Marcia Barrett, Maizie Williams, Liz Mitchell and Bobby Farrell.

They had an impressive run, starting with their hit single Daddy Cool in 1976 and going on to have 10 UK top 10 hits before their eventual split in 1986.

Now Ms Mitchell’s contributions to music are being recognised with an MBE from King Charles III after the monarch announced his honours list this week.

Referred to her full name, Elizabeth Rebecca Pemberton-Mitchell, the Singer has officially been given the title as recognition for her services to music and charity.

Ms Mitchell recently paid tribute to former bandmate Frank Farian who died in January.

"Our work was truly blessed and so enjoyed by people around the world who had the privilege to hear it down the years,” she said.

“The testimonies come from the hearts of those who heard it and I am so grateful to the god of music that allowed our coming together, to create and present to the world the music of Boney M.

"We shared and united under a star which rose above and beyond what we ever dared to expect.

"I say well done to the work that we did. Rest in peace, Frank.”
