A University of Oxford student has blasted Rishi Sunak’s claims of sacrifices after growing up without Sky TV.
The Prime Minister was partaking in an interview with ITV this week when he was asked if he had ever gone without something.
Mr Sunak responded: “My family emigrated here with very little and that’s how I was raised with the values of hard work.
“I went without lots of things because my parents wanted to put everything into our education and that was the priority.

“All sorts of things like lots of people, there’d be all sorts of things that I would have wanted as a kid that I couldn’t have, famously Sky TV.
“That was something that we never had growing up actually.”
The comments have led to a strong backlash from the public and this outrage has extended to Oxford.
Chloe Pomfret co-chairs Class Act Oxford which is a campaign for working-class, low-income, first-generation, state-comp educated students, care leavers and estranged students at the university.

The Human Sciences undergraduate student took to social media to air her shock at the Prime Minister’s comments.
“The day after my 11th birthday, my dad asked to borrow my birthday money back to top up the electricity,” she revealed on X.
“I knew I wasn't getting that £25 back but I didn't really care as I was freezing cold.
“One of many sacrifices I made as a child that Rishi would never understand...”

Mr Sunak is on the general election trail with voting taking place on Thursday, July 4.
