A man has been arrested after police responded to reports of a person walking around with a hammer.

Thames Valley Police community support officers were carrying out foot and bike patrols last weekend in Abingdon when they received the report of the incident in Bury Street.

The force confirmed a man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and criminal damage.

He has subsequently been bailed with conditions.

TVP statement posted online said: “Over the weekend, police community support officers Ali Blood and Susie Morley carried out foot and cycle patrols in Abingdon.

"Whilst in Bury Street, they have taken a report of a young male with a hammer, after obtaining a good description, a male was shortly arrested by their incident and crime response colleagues."
