Layla Moran promised "to stand up and fight for all LGBT+ rights" after she took part in Oxford Pride 2024.

Ms Moran, Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Oxford West and Abingdon seat, said she was also "very happy to be out and about in the community again" after being hospitalised for 11 days with sepsis - an infection of the blood stream.

Afterwards she said: “It’s been a fantastic day at Pride celebrating what a vibrant and inclusive city Oxford is.

"I'm pleased to say I’ve had the all clear from the hospital and I couldn’t think of a better first engagement.

“It was great to see so many local people, including lots of families, showing their support for the LGBTQ+ community. Thanks to all the organisers and volunteers for making sure everything went smoothly and keeping everyone safe."

Ms Moran has said 'it left some scars' after she was forced to come out as pansexual in 2020 after she was approached by the Mail On Sunday about her relationship with a woman.

She added: “LGBTQ+ rights are under threat, now more than ever, with too many politicians trying to stoke division in a manufactured culture war. That makes celebrations like today even more important.

“I am proud to represent a party that fights for the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of every individual. If re-elected as MP for Oxford West and Abingdon I will continue to stand up and fight for all LGBT+ rights.”

Other candidates for Oxford West and Abingdon are: Anni Byard - Social Democratic Party; Chris Goodall - Green Party; James Gunn - Reform UK; Josh Phillips - Independent; Vinay Raniga - Conservative Party; Ian Shelley - Christian Peoples Alliance; Stephen Webb - Labour Party.
