The Oxford University college attended by the late Dr Michael Mosley has paid tribute to the graduate after his death was confirmed over the weekend.

Dr Mosley read philosophy, politics and economics (PPE) at Oxford's New College, graduating in 1975, before later studying medicine at the Royal Free Hospital Medical School.

In a statement, a New College spokesperson said the community had been "deeply saddened by the death of our alumnus Dr Michael Mosley". 

The statement said: "We extend our profound sympathy to his family.

"Dr Mosley, a brilliant documentary maker, journalist and author, spent his life dedicated to making the latest research about healthy living accessible to all."

The college said it was grateful that Dr Mosley was able to contribute to their podcast - Old Member Conversations developed by Katie Brewer - prior to his recent death in Greece. 

Dr Mosley was interviewed in a recent episode - published in March 2024 - in which he talked about his non-traditional route to medicine and media. 

Ms Brewer introduced him as one of the country's "most loved" medical doctors, running through a glittering CV including being awarded medical journalist of the year in 1995 and being nominated for an Emmy for his work on the BBC series The Human Face. 

Dr Mosley described how moving to Oxford represented a "big, big change in my life" and the "first time I was truly happy", after difficulties at boarding school. 

He said he became passionate about politics and philosophy during his time at Oxford after formerly considering studies in mathematics and law.
