Food hygiene ratings have been handed to two South Oxfordshire establishments, including a venue recently voted as community pub of the year. 

The Bull Great Milton, at The Green, Great Milton was handed a four-out-of-five rating after being assessed on May 2. 

This means hygiene standards at the pub are deemed to be 'good'.

The historic pub has been around since 1684 and features homemade locally sourced food and a traditional beer garden. 

With the building's original features and traditional thatched roof, the team said the "rich history weaves itself into the very fabric of the pub". 

The Dolphin, at 2 St Mary's Street, Wallingford, also received a rating - with a score of three-out-of-five meaning hygiene standards are 'generally satisfactory'. 

The venue only recently picked up a Green King's community pub of the year award for a wide range of events and community initiatives. 

These latest ratings mean that of South Oxfordshire's 78 pubs, bars and nightclubs with ratings, 37 have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.

Food hygiene ratings are a snapshot of the standards of food hygiene found at the time of inspection.

The Food Standards Agency website states it is the responsibility of the business to comply with food hygiene law at all times.

Ratings for businesses can be found online and on stickers which are displayed at business premises.

The scheme gives businesses a rating from five to zero with five meaning hygiene standards are deemed to be 'very good' and zero meaning 'urgent  improvement is required'.
