We are searching for unsung heroes across Oxford who are contributing to making our world a better place through climate initiatives.

Today, sister newspapers Oxford Mail and The Oxford Times join forces to announce the launch of the inaugural Oxford Climate Awards which will be hosted at Oxford Town Hall on October 17.

We are proudly supported by LocalIQ, the commercial arm of our wider business, and headline sponsor Oxford City Council.

Oxford Mail: Oxford Climate Awards

Regional editor Andrew Colley said: “Our newspapers have always championed the incredible communities we serve and regularly write and investigate the issues which matter most to them.

“Oxford is a forerunner in the fight for a brighter future and leads the way in climate initiatives and we want to do more to celebrate the incredible things going on across our city.

“With the launch of the Oxford Climate Awards, we are excited to honour those amazing people who are doing so much but often go uncelebrated.

“And we realise too that we have a duty to inform and educate readers on how further changes and improvements can be made.

“Throughout the nomination period, we will be producing regular in-depth features on the issue of climate change and celebrate the truly amazing case studies we receive.”

Nominations are now open and we want to hear from you about those individuals, teams, businesses, community groups or institutions which deserve credit for going the extra mile in a mission to create a greener future for all.

Commercial director Darran Reynolds said: “Today we launch of the Oxford Climate Awards 2024.

“It’s a real thrill for me to see this initiative reach this important milestone as it started very much as a pipe dream and the seed of an idea between ourselves and our friends at Oxford City Council.

“Since the turn of the year the dream has become a reality and I want to express my gratitude to our partners who have made it all possible.

“At its heart, this is all about shining a light on great examples of climate action from individuals to larger businesses.

“It’s not to preach but to celebrate and inspire others. We all have a duty to reduce our carbon footprint and it can only be achieved with a collective effort by us all.

“We are welcoming entries and are all excited by the journey ahead with its culmination at the Gala dinner in October where our winners will be announced.”
